| Baroque Masterpieces: Bach and Handel |
| - It is difficult to imagine more festive music than the four anthems Handel composed for the coronation of King George II and Queen Caroline in Westminster Abbey on 11 October 1727, including the ever-popular Zadok the Priest which has been sung at every coronation since 1727. |
| - Handel’s Gloria, previously unknown for nearly 300 years, was discovered in the library of the Royal Academy of Music in London in 2001. Clearly written as a showpiece for coloratura soprano, it is an important addition to the Handel catalogue.
Two of Bach’s best-known works also feature in the concert. |
