2008-09 Season of Celebrity Concerts

The programme of celebrity concerts for the 2008-09 season is as follows:

Manchester Camerata Ensemble

The ever-popular Manchester Camerata Ensemble return with 5 strings and a clarinet to play the Mozart Clarinet Quintet and string quintets by Mozart and Brahms.

Jennifer Pike

Jennifer Pike. The very highly regarded violinist who won BBC Young Musician of the Year 2002, will give a recital (accompanied by piano) including sonatas by Janacek, Beethoven and Franck.

Cantorion Sirenian Singers

Our "Christmas Concert" will feature the internationally acclaimed Cantorion Sirenian Singers a mixed choir who sing choral music spanning six centuries and a wide range of composers from all over the world. They will include some more unusual Christmas pieces.

Amy Dickson and Catherine Milledge Wed. 14th January 2009
Amy Dickson and Catherine Milledge

Amy Dickson (saxophone) and Catherine Milledge (piano) return to Chester after a very well received concert in 2007 for the Music Festival. They will play a number of pieces ranging from Brahms to Gershwin, Debussy and Rachmaninoff (saxophone plus piano and solo piano).

Barbirolli String Quartet

"There is always a place for classical musicians so totally robust and rhythmically precise". (The Times 14 Jan 08). The (all female) Barbirolli String Quartet (2 violins, viola and cello) will play Mozart, Beethoven, Ravel and a new composition by Emily Hall. Formed in 2003 as "The Stillman Quartet", they so impressed the late Lady Barbirolli that she allowed them to take the name of her late husband, Sir John.

Dmytro Onyshchenko Wed. 11th March 2009
Dmytro Onyshchenko

Dmytro Onyshchenko won the Moscow International Tchaichovsky Piano Competition at the age of 19 and in 2007 won the First Prize (piano) at the prestigious Lyssenko International Competition in Kiev. He has given a number of very successful concerts in Chester in recent years with the Chester Philharmonic Orchestra. He will play works by Bach, Liszt and Beethoven.
